Craft L♥VE Tutorial: Upcycled Photo Frame

Craft Love. ♥

Find me on Pinterest as Lisa Adams.

I wanted to create an upcycled photo frame to display vintage photographs or mementos.

I found no instructions, but they looked easy enough to recreate and to add my own touches.

What I really love about these frames are the colours, they are so fun.

I quickly located some old photo frames, bright paints, craft wire and some glass beads to get started on my project.

Craft L♥VE Tutorial: Upcycled Photo Frame

I used dollar store craft supplies and photo frames, gathered by the side of the road to complete this project.

Materials Needed:
1.  Wooden or plastic photo frame
2.  Colourful paints
3.  One roll of white (or desired colour) craft wire
4.  Four Glass Beads (in desired colour)
5.  Mini Clothespins & Vintage photographs
6.  Cordless Drill & Drill bit larger in diameter than craft wire
7.  Wire cutters
8.  Sealer

Directions:

Step 1:  Clean, sand and paint photo frame as necessary
It may take several coats of paint to completely cover the previous finish. Follow instructions of paint, wait between coats for dry time. Seal if desired.

Step 2:  Measure and mark drill holes on frame
I wanted my wire to be placed on a zig zag in the frame so I placed my holes accordingly. I also centred the hole so it ran in the middle of the frame making it visually nicer.

Step 3:  Drill holes at marked locations
Don’t forget your safety glasses. Tip: Once the drill bit is through the wood keep the drill on while pulling the drill bit out of the wood.

Step 4: Stringing the first wire
Take spool of wire and string it from the outside of frame at the beginning point (see picture) and string thru to the inside and out the left hole.

Step 5: Attach bead to keep the wire in place
After inserting the wire and pulling it thru the right hole, attach glass bead to the wire pulled thru the left hole. Leave enough wire to wrap around the bead and also some of the wire close to the hole to secure. Any extra wire may be reinserted into the hole to keep it out-of-the-way.

Step 6: Attach bead to second wire

Place bead on second wire. Wrap around bead and the wire to secure.

Step 7: Stringing the second wire
Take the beaded wire and string it from the outside of frame at the beginning point (see picture) and pull thru to the outside and wrap around the first wire. No need to attach another bead at the end.
